RSS Feeds
Really Simple Syndication news feeds for are now available for the extranet.
What is RSS?RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a standard for publishing regular updates to web-based content. Put plainly, it allows you to identify the content you like and have it delivered directly to you. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in. How do I start using RSS feeds?
You will need a piece of software called a newsreader, these are available for your PC, Pocket PC, Blackberry device and now built into Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. You may need to contact your IT Support Team to request this to be installed. The benefit of using RSS feeds with a Pocket PC or Blackberry handheld is that you don't need to use a web browser to access information - it is automatically fetched in the same way that your email is delivered, directly to your device. Once you have chosen a newsreader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want. In your newsreader software there will be an option to subscribe to a new feed - all you need to do is enter the following address : www.pcrn-eoe.org/feed.asp When you have subscribed you will then get any newly published or updated pages from the extranet delivered directly to your news reader.
